Florida dad Wayman Gresham posted a Facebook video in 2015 that at first appeared to be yet another example of shame discipline. In the video, he stands next to his son, who is sitting in a chair. Gresham tells the camera he is going to teach his son a lesson and then says, "I don't teach him to mess up in school, I don't teach him to be a fool." He seems about to shave his son's head, but instead asks him for a hug and lets him go.

Gresham then talks about the role of parents and how public shaming doesn't help. "There's no way in the world I would ever embarrass my son like that," he says. "Good parenting starts before he even gets to the point of being out of control."

He finds the trend really disturbing. "I've gone on Facebook and many times I've seen this kind of punishment, cutting of the hair or a child being embarrassed one way or another," Gresham said, according to BBC Trending. "There is no legitimate reason for humiliating your child, there is no legitimate reason for snatching their dignity."
